Report: 10,614 hectares of koala habitat at risk from coal.

The 2025 update of the "Koalas Or Coal Mines" report has found 24 proposed new coal mines that will clear important koala habitat, including 22 projects that are being assessed under the EPBC Act and seeking approval from the Federal government.

These 24 coal mining projects plan to clear a combined total of 10,614 hectares of koala habitat if granted approval.

The newly re-elected Labor Government will soon decide whether many of these coal mines can proceed.

The Shocking Facts

The report reveals:

Tree and Koala 24 proposed coal mining projects plan to clear a staggering 10,614 hectares of crucial koala habitat.
This loss of habitat is equivalent to over 106 square kilometres, 70 times the size of Brisbane's CBD,
Stadium or around 8,845 Suncorp stadium sized sporting fields.
Carbon Fire If these projects proceed, over 7.7 billion tonnes of carbon pollution will be released into the atmosphere, exacerbating climate change. That’s more than Australia’s total carbon emissions over the last decade.
